Rebecca Foster-Clarke (b. 1999) is a contemporary figurative artist based in Norwich, UK. Her work explores femininity and psychological archetypes through painting. Drawing on Jungian archetypes, such as the Fool and the Trickster, her practice reflects the tension of navigating womanhood in a patriarchal culture—where performance, misinterpretation, and contradiction are daily realities.
These archetypes, often dismissed as chaotic or disruptive figures, embody vulnerability and subversion as strengths in Foster-Clarke’s work—using humour, contradiction, and unpredictability to unsettle expectations and disrupt familiar narratives.
By reclaiming the Fool and the Trickster as tools of critique and survival, Foster-Clarke challenges viewers to reconsider their assumptions about power, absurdity, and the feminine.

DISTURBIA
Disturbia draws inspiration from vintage horror movies, exploring the duality of female archetypes: the innocent lamb and the monstrous villain. Women today often navigate a world as unpredictable and menacing as any horror film, where the mundane can suddenly turn sinister. The dark humour embedded in these works serves as a coping mechanism, a way to confront the absurdity and intensity of these experiences. It reflects the societal pressure to remain composed even when facing immense stress, highlighting the paradox of smiling through the fear. Through this work, the silent, everyday struggle of women is captured; an existence that can feel as unnerving and unpredictable as a well-crafted horror story.
